As I mentioned in my last blog, I was invited to participate as an instructor at last weekend’s BSA Camporee. I thought it would be fun to bring my Lavvu to add to the rustic camping experience for the participating troops. As mentioned on my shelter page, the lavvu tent is native to the Sami people (a.k.a. – Laplanders). It is similar to a tipi, but has no smoke flaps or seams to fasten. Because there is no floor, you can have a campfire inside for warmth, cooking, or atmosphere. This model sleeps 3 plus a campfire in the middle. Once you have experienced tipi camping, you’ll never be the same.
